Before today, I was only marginally sure that a spinal tap would suck. Today....I'm absolutely positive of it. They SUCK. The doctor will put your mind at ease by telling you while he is injecting lidocaine, which isn't pleasant, that "This is the worst part of the test". He's lying. It's not. That ninja sword of a needle pictured above..., yeah, THAT'S the worst part of the test, make no mistake. Because I'm a big guy, "beefy" as the doctor put it, my needle was longer, about 6 inches.
