Somali Militia.....VERY STUPID.

Yesterday that's just what some idiot militiamen did off the coast of Somalia. Suspecting them of piracy the Navy attempted to stop and board the 30 ft vessel. Instead of heaving to, these "militiamen" fired on the USS Cape St. George (Top, a guided missile cruiser) and the USS Gonzalez (Bottom, a guided missile destroyer). Pirates or militiamen, these dudes ain't too bright. Suffice it to say an RPG is "piss in the wind" against these big ships. We're not talking about a humvee or armored personnel carrier here. These are massive warships of the most powerful navy in the world. They're over 500 ft long, 9000 tons and carry a vast array of armament to include:


Torpedoes


5 inch guns


Antiship Missiles


and CIWS (close in weapons system gatling gun)


Not to mention:

Several placements of twin mounted .50 caliber machine guns.

The men deny firing first, and two whole shiploads of US sailors are lying...Yeah right. Because there is no "personnel department" keeping accurate records of who exactly is in these rag tag militias, they have no proof that they are who they say they are. It's also been reported that one of the many ways these warlords fund their militias is by pirating, which is why it is so common off the coast of their country. Couple that with the fact that they were towing several other smaller skiffs behind the boat, common for pirates to do after seizing them, and I'd say the evidence is pretty compelling that they are pirates.
